This summer, the City of Oakville is holding a public art competition. STEPS Public Art is looking for artists who are interested in putting their skills to work. The contest will award the winning artist a check for $1500, as well as an opportunity to enter a contract with the Oakville Public Library. In exchange for their talents, artists will receive a hefty budget to create the perfect public artwork.

Golf tournaments
Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville is a private, family-friendly golf course that has been designed by renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus. It opened in 1976. The club has hosted many Canadian Open Championships.
In 2004, the RBC Canadian Open was held at the Glen Abbey. Mike Weir was in the field. However, he missed a cut and lost in a playoff.
Since then, ClubLink has been pursuing development plans for the property. They are trying to build an office building, retail and residential spaces. But the town of Oakville is opposed to the project. Fortunately, the city has won a battle against the developer and will keep the course open.
Glen Abbey’s history is quite dramatic. It was once a millionaire’s mansion. A Jesuit monastery once occupied the building. Later, a sawmill was built. The course’s historic site has been designated as a cultural heritage landscape.
Glen Abbey is also home to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum. Many famous golfers have been honored there. One of the most notable players to be honored was Tiger Woods.
